About Dr. Brooks

Dr. Brian Brooks is a clinical neuropsychologist with over 15 years of experience in clinical assessment and research on conditions affecting the brain, including neurodevelopmental disorders, medical/neurological disorders, psychological disorders, and acquired brain injury. He is registered to practice in Alberta.

Dr. Brooks obtained his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Calgary and completed both his residency and postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychology in Vancouver. He is a staff neuropsychologist at a pediatric tertiary care hospital (where he was the team lead for over a decade) and a consulting neuropsychologist for the National Hockey League (NHL) Concussion Tracking Program. He is a fellow with the National Academy of Neuropsychology and a member of the Canadian Psychological Association Clinical Neuropsychology group.
 
Dr. Brooks is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Calgary, a member of several research institutes, and he has research collaborations with leaders in the field of neuropsychology from all over the world. He has over 145 peer-reviewed publications, over 150 international conference presentations, he has served as an editorial board member for the journals Archives of Clinical Neuropsychology, Applied Neuropsychology: Child, and Neuropsychology, he co-edited the textbook Pediatric Forensic Neuropsychology, and he co-authored three commercially published memory tests: the Child and Adolescent Memory Profile (ChAMP), the Memory Validity Profile (MVP), and the Multidimensional Everyday Memory Ratings for Youth (MEMRY). He is a co-investigator on over $20 million in grant funding related to brain injury outcomes.

Dr. Brooks' work has been recognized through multiple awards by the National Academy of Neuropsychology, including the Early Career Award, two-time Nelson Butters Award winner for top publication, and he was elected as a Fellow. He has been nominated twice for the AHS President’s Award for Excellence and he has been nominated for the National Academy of Neuropsychology's Reitan Clinical Excellence Award for for contributions to the field of neuropsychology.
