Dr. Sophia (Sophie) Macrodimitris is a Registered Psychologist with nearly 20 years of experience providing evidence-based, effective and efficient clinical interventions to adult clients with a broad range of psychological issues. Dr. Macrodimitris brings extensive education, training, clinical and research experience to her practice.
Graduating with an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at the University of Manitoba, she completed her Master’s and Doctoral training in Clinical Psychology at York University. For the past 18 years, she has been the clinical and research lead in a hospital clinic addressing illness adjustment issues for chronic neurological conditions, with a particular focus on addressing medically unexplained symptoms (i.e., Functional Neurological Symptom Disorder, FNSD, or Conversion Disorder).
Her research has spanned issues related to stress, coping, and illness, and includes the importance of intervening to optimize mental health in order to improve both the physical illness process itself and coping with illness. She has authored or co-authored several publications and conference presentations and has been the recipient of several scholarships and awards at various points in her career.
Dr. Macrodimitris regularly attends courses to continue to develop her knowledge and skill and is also active in training doctoral-level clinical psychology students at her hospital practice.
